Last month my friend’s dog was rushed to the Animal ER due to an overdose of his medication. As it turned out, lack of communication in the household had presented itself and the dog had been medicated by several family members. None told the other that the dog had already received the medication. Yes. I realize with the hustle and bustle of modern day life, people tend not to communicate as they should. In this case the poor dog suffered, but did recover.
Two months ago, a local resident, out walking his dog at night, was struck by a car. The owner did not survive. The dog was knocked out of the way and did survive.
Why as I telling you this?
Boredom, due to these winter months now, sometimes causes me to do searches on the internet for no real reason at all. However these two incidents that I just mentioned spured me to check the world wide web to see if there is something out there that could have prevented these situations. And low and behold I actually found some things that would work. I thought I would share them with you.
Product number 1:
This neat little gadget will keep tabs on the care that your pet has received. Whether it’s feeding, walking, medicating, etc.
As a matter of fact, I am thinking of buying one of these for my friend who’s dog was overdosed.
Product number 2:
This lighted collar and leash idea is amazing. I honestly wish that poor man and his dog could have known about this and was using it. The whole tragic incident might have very well been avoided.

Hi ,my name is Anne and I have a problem with a rental office by the name of Schultz Properties. There website is Schultzpropertiesmn.com Anyway about a month ago I called them about an apartment for rent and told him I had a service dog. He said what is your disabilty ? I said I have many disabilities that my dog helps me with, one in particular is that I fall ocassionally and he helps me to get up. Well that’s not a service dog and my attorney said I only have to accept seeing eye dogs ! My dog is also used for severe anxiety and panic attacks and if I didn’t have him I would probably be in a hospital. I copied the new rule about service animals but I would really like to see people get ahold of this company and let them have it ! i would love to get any agencies to help out like ADA or States Attorneys..can you help at all ? This guy is not going to slide by that easy. I won’t live theer no matter what and I will let other people know but I don’t think he should be let off that easy. What he did was against the law in so many ways… thank you for any help. Anne and Beamer
If I were you the first thing I would do is notify the Ada but then I would take it a step further and notify the biggest local newspaper in your area and give them the facts. Let people know whats going on. Only by this can we stop the ignorance thats going on with some of the businesses in many places. I have 2 pitbulls one is a certified therapy as well as service dog. She has been thru grueling classes since May to get all the awards and certificates she has . The other I just got a month ago but he is 2 hrs away from being a certified therapy dog and will go on to be a service dog hopefully also. Not sure about your state law but in Ky. a service dog has to be certified by an acredited instructor. There are only 2 questions anyone can ask you 1. do u have a disability- ur response is yes and thats it. 2.Is this a service dog?-ur response is yes-he mitigates my disability. That is all u have to say—period! I hope this helps.
Just want to add that no state, city of county laws can over ride federal law. You dog does not need to be certified by an acredited instructor according to federal law. I have found the use of the service dog tags and copy of federal law works the best. I have filed an complaint against a food store chain and waiting to see what the DOJ/ADA does, in mean time I do not shop there. So just keep fighting the fight it will work, yes we have to fight for it but I am willing to do that. Look at Martin Luther King, disabilites are a cause worth fighting for. Thanks
Another health tip: If you brush your dog’s teeth, read the toothpaste tube carefully. I had bought a “doggy” brand and the second ingredient listed was Sorbital-an artificial sweetener used in sugar free candy for diabetics and a LAXITIVE. My little chauhuaua mix had an awful week until a friend of mine discovered what the cause likely was. I stopped using that product and, thankfully, the problem stopped. Other sweeteners that will cause the problem are malitol and asparatame.
In response to Anne Dame; Seriously people, why do you have to cry boo hoo to state agencies every time someone offends you. You give them way too much power. I should have the right to NOT rent to someone if I’m the one doing the maintenance and my asthma with not tolerate dog dander. What about my right to breath? Everything is not black and white and needs policing. Rent somewhere else, protest in front of their building or write letters to the owner’s. Wonder why we are creating nanny states? By the way, one of your disabilities is that you cannot spell. Debbie, I don’t care how much training your pitbulls have had, I would not rent to you. My Shiz-Tu has been attacked more than once by “well trained, friendly” pit bulls and these dog are a liability in my rental insurance policy. Sorry to not be another whinny posting.
Well, so many dog care products are available at the market. We must know which product is suitable for our loving pets. Choosing right product is an art.
Your spelling and writing skills aren’t much better, Mary. Really?
There are still ignorant folks out there who need to be educated about the law. We all share that responsibility whether individual or agency. I have found that most service oriented employees ARE aware of the current laws. But there are a few. . . .
Sussie, Thought you might be interested in a news article from Grand Rapids Michigan (my hometown). I am so proud of my community.
