I have a friend that runs a publishing company. She is always trying to come up with new ideas for a new magazine.

Which leads me to ask the readers.

If a magazine geared towards Service Dogs and ESA’s and their owners, would you subscribe to it? Would you submit stories to it? If you were a trainer or sold Service Dog goods, would you advertize in it?

Absolutely, Sussie, I’d subscribe to it and submit stories! I just went back to school for creative writing and would love to help bring a magazine like that into the works.

I would subscribe and contribute as we encounter difficulties all the time with our service dogs. Florida is behind the times when it comes to accepting either a service dog/esa even with the obedience/service animal training certificates. Let’s get a magazine geared towards helping each other with loads of information and save a little on this website.

I am a published author of childrens books & would love to share stories that even children or young adults with service dogs would read. Seems we really need a connection this worthwhile.

4 MJ Valentino 05.23.11 at 6:58 am

In a heart beat I would share stories as because I have a small service dog I am challanged all the time as to he cant be a service dog he is to small. Who says a service dog has to be big?

I think that would be a WONDERFULL magazin. although as a person witha dissability on a fixed income I could never advertise in it but I’m sure the Scooter storee and many other organizatios that help the dissabled would, National M/S societ and all their drug comapanies would probably line up for you. I would love to tell the Stories of how my first Servise Dog of 5 years got me out of a wheelchair and how Little Abbey lane my second service dog rescued me from death when I was in Hospice….Go for it!!!

I absolutely would. I would like to write articles. Just a couple of days ago we took a rental car back to the airport. My 42 lb Aussie service dog was in the backseat. A Muslim girl attendant freaked out when she saw the dog jump out. She yelled at me “You can’t have a dog in the backseat unless it is in a box (I guess meaning crate). We are going to charge you extra. The dog will leave hair. ( She then leaned into the back seat and said it smelled)”. I take exception to that since my dog is well groomed. I leaned over and smelled my dog (she smelled like shampoo). I told her that was nonsense and that my dog was always groomed and probably smelled better than she did. With that she yelled at me “I’m going to get my manager!”. I said “Good, I was about to ask you to. Maybe he understands ADA requirements. When the manager arrived, he was very apologetic and said there would be no extra charge. The attendant
was very distraught over the whole ordeal. The whole scenario surprised me. My dog is usually very well received and has a wonderful temperament.

I would love that! It’s a great and idea, and yes to all the questions!

8 Caroline 05.23.11 at 9:43 am

@ Suzane Peters…so am I. I’ve been playing around with writing a book geared towards service animals, and then doing a presentation at our kids school with Scarlet, my great dane SD. She would be a great tool to get people used to the fact that not all service dogs come in a single size or breed, just like we people dont!

9 Judy Neese 05.23.11 at 10:17 am

I think a magazine for Service Dogs and their owners would be awesome. I would most certainly subscribe.

10 Sherlei 05.23.11 at 10:43 am

Yes I would subscribe ( depending on price) and maybe share stories… :-)

11 Jacque Clifford 05.23.11 at 11:28 am

I would love a subscription, I have a service dog a 107lb Lab and my sister-in-law has a guide dog. Maybe one thats in Braile, she could help with that also. She certainly can give you some stories too

12 Tom 05.23.11 at 12:05 pm

I would enjoy, if allowed, to submit stories about the rewards of therapy dogs and my feelings after visits to Children’s Special Needs schools and our long term facilities.

13 ally 05.23.11 at 1:56 pm

21 Linda 05.29.11 at 9:40 am

I would subscribe!!!

22 Deanna 06.11.11 at 5:48 am

Yes! I would definetely subscribe. I have an emotional support dog that is 15 years old and just because he is old people say he can’t be an ESD! I am currently being told I have to move out of a trailor park because of my dog. (I can stay, but my dog has to leave…as if I would get rid of my ESD of 15 years).

23 annette 06.14.11 at 3:10 pm

I think that would be AWESOME!! It will help us educate more people!! What a great resource!!

24 Sue Lewis 06.20.11 at 9:54 pm

I would welcome it and subscribe in a heartbeat. Just beginning and am finding good info is hard to find

25 Robin B 06.28.11 at 9:51 am

I would like one about Service Dogs…ESA don’t have the same access rights as SD…so that might confuse people putting them in the same magazine, there is already some confusion as it is (nothing against ESA’S)
The people doing the magazine must know the ADA laws to avoid any problems…sometimes on these news programs you see them giving out the wrong info on SD or calling Therapy dogs, comfort dogs and ESA’s , Service Dogs. If they got their info right I would subscribe :)

26 Gwen W. 07.13.11 at 12:51 pm

29 Helen Pietrzak 09.19.11 at 5:34 pm

I would love a magazine geared towards service dogs and their handlers. I would also submit stories about our travels with our 2 SD’s and our therapy visits.

30 Cindy Morgan 11.06.11 at 12:55 pm

Would love to have one as other groups have one….why not service dog users? I am a service dog trainer and user and future graduate of Bergin University of Canine Studies Assistance Dog Education, and would love the opportunity to wright legal and training tips for SD users.

31 Debbie Holden 11.14.11 at 2:27 pm

34 Judy Beese 02.27.12 at 1:16 pm

Absolutely I would subscribe to a service dog magazine. I think the better informed we are the better. I am isolated from any one else who has a service dog and would love the support we could get from such a magazine. But the price would have to be reasonable because many of us with a SD are on limited incomes.

35 Cooke Osborn 03.26.12 at 3:02 pm

I would love to see a magazine about service dogs. As a blog writer myself focused on Service Dog Certification I think there are a ton of stories out there, and a lot of information regarding laws and training that people would love to read about. It would also be a great opportunity for people to learn more about service dogs, and avoid the scams that are out there. I would also be interested in advertising if the circulation was high enough.

36 Sue Moriarty 06.16.12 at 9:43 pm

I do better reading in hand other than online. Yes we definately need a paper publication.

37 Donna Sisco 06.22.12 at 8:27 pm

Being the owner of a service dog I would definitely be interested in a service magazine. I had know idea there wasn’t any until I searched for one and found this blog!

38 roseanne 06.24.12 at 9:52 pm

help me secure images of service dogs. And also,I have images of just dogs

40 Chilton Hospital 07.11.12 at 11:23 am

We have a patient at our hospital that has a service dog by her side 24/7 in case she has seizures. There is heart-warming story on our website about how the dog personalizes care for the patient:

41 Elizabeth Sheridan 09.17.12 at 1:14 pm

yes I/we would Love to subscribe to the service dog magazine…

42 KM Heggen 10.01.12 at 1:57 pm

Asher Kelev (Hebrew for “Happy Dog” ), a German Shepherd, is my 3rd SD. My other two were Shelties. The only reason I went to the bigger dog is to help me transfer. I have trained them all. There have been times when I could have used some training tips. While people in my area are amazed at what she does for me, I know there are a lot more things that she could do to help me. A magazine would be well worth a reasonable price. Yes, yes, Yes! Let me know when one is available, you’ve got my email. Asher is the reason I can still live on my own. As I grow older, I know there will more things she can do for me.

43 ciindy 11.15.12 at 6:49 pm

I would love to have a mag for service dogs let me know if there ever is one.

44 Dennis 02.04.13 at 12:22 pm

I think you have a great Idea and I would defenitly subscribe to this magazine

45 Gailynne M. Ferguson 02.11.13 at 2:26 pm

I recently wrote a series on service dogs for a small newspaper and have become totally absorbed in these animals. The general public is so unaware of all of the conditions where service dogs can aide individuals. I learned so much while writing the series and talking to the people involved with the training. I am currently reading a book on how service dogs are now helping our veterans with PTSD and again these dogs do not cease to amaze me. If you publish a magazine on service dogs, I would not only be interested in subscribing to it but also writing articles on various organizations, individuals and the dogs! Please, let me know if the magazine is launched.

46 KathyJo 05.17.13 at 9:27 am

YES! I would love a magazine specifically geared at service dogs. I earned my service dog just last May and would love to connect to the service dog community that I know is “out there”! I think we could learn a great deal from reading what other owners/handlers have to say … Thank you for considering this idea.

47 wendy 06.03.13 at 8:18 am

49 joAnne 12.10.13 at 10:50 am

Yes, for two reasons. I am currently enrolled in a travel-writing class and looking for the perfect publication for my work. Plus I am a volunteer who transports service dogs and puppies around the world on board airplanes. I have a lot of stories to share. Good luck!
